How to prevent mascara from getting in your eyes when washing off?

I'm tried being really really gentle and just taking a cotton thing with water and rubbing (GENTLY) but it always ends up in my eyes! How to prevent mascara from getting in your eyes when washing off?
Buy an eye makeup remover to use before you wash your face (I hope you're not using soap?). The best eye makeup remover (in the world) is Clarin's. Don't panic about the price - you need very little of it and it conditions the skin around your eyes. Put a few drops on a cotton pad (not a cotton ball) and lightly press against your eyes and lashes. - keep it on your eyes for about a minute. This leaves a light film of oil which will come off when you clean your face. Clarins products are made from natural plant extracts so you won't develop an allergy. I use a waterproof mascara and this takes it off - it costs $25 at Macy's (instead of $26 at Dillard's).How to prevent mascara from getting in your eyes when washing off?
long eyelashes:

Eye makeup remover pads. clean your lashes in a up ward motion. stroke them toward your eyebrows. then gently rinse with water, do not rub.

Medium:

Use a makeup pad and slowly and gently clean your mascara with a circular motion. rotate direction after a semi rotation. (better to start at bottom, it would help to trace your eye with the pad when rotating).

Short: no solution. sorry. you can try and use facial cleanser and apply a small dab and rinse with water.
Close your eyes when you wash your face.
