Why does my mascara keep drying out and getting clumpy in the bottle?

I have purchased several different brands in the past 6 months and with the same results, it works for about 1 week then it starts getting gooey and clumpy and dries up. I have tried running hot water on the bottle itself and that seems to help the clumping but increase the drying out. Anything else I can try? I have already sent an on-line complaint to one Company and they gave me free coupons, however now I feel like I cheated them because obviously it was not just theirs. Why does my mascara keep drying out and getting clumpy in the bottle?
The reason for this is a simple chemical reaction. When you open the mascara container, the air enters in and starts the reaction. Result; mascara dries out. You should try not to ';pump'; the wand in the container, every time you do that, you pump in a lot of air and thous make it dry out faster. Instead try to twirl the wand in the container.

No matter what you do, mascara will eventually dry out. But twirling instead of pumping should help a little.

I'm a professional make-up artist and I love Clinique's Naturally Glossy Mascara. I can use one for about 3 months.

Good luckWhy does my mascara keep drying out and getting clumpy in the bottle?
Don't pump your mascara--excessive exposure to air causes a chemical reaction--which results in clumps-cakey texture. You should store it in a cool--dry area that is climate controlled. Don't carry it in your purse-- by doing that you're not only exposing it to the elements but you are also making it more suspectible to bacteria.
You probably pump your mascara too much. Pumping causes air to go in, making your mascara dry and clumpy.
the first girl was right... when you put the wand in the tube try not to pump it. just slide it in and pull it out. especially if its new it should come out with enough mascara on it.
It is because you are giving it too much air when you pump it don't pump it as much
This happens a lot w/ mascara try cleaning the top of the bottle because thats where it drys out most and buy a mascara that has an air tight bottle. (When you take out the brush it makes a popping noise lol). I have a very good mascara right now, Its a trial size because i bought their foundation which sucked but the mascara is great. The company is Prescriptives, Here to Stay mascara it never clumps (you can get it at macy's)
do you ever just leave the tube out? if u cant solve it, call the company
