You will know it is empty because the brush will come out dry.
However, because eyes are so sensitive to bacterial infections, I wouldn't keep mascara for more than three months. After that, things could really start growing in there.

Get a flash light and look in the tube.
Make up should be replaced frequently regardless if it is empty or not.
Bacteria love the stuff. Consult the manufacturer.
If you must test, get a new bottle, take the brush and tap it over a tissue. That gives you a visual reference for how much should come off. Then check against yours.
When only a little come off, you know it is time to replace it.

Good question. Im not sure either I guess you can tell its run out when it doesnt come out as when you first got it. I do know one thing though I think...I think I remember that you are only ment to keep mascara for two months

Um same thing happens to me, it doesnt mean we r dumb so dont feel bad! Usually i cannever figure it out , but when the brush strats getting sticky and dry and clumpy. When its not so wet anymore and when you put it on there is not much shown on your lashes.
usually when it starts getting dry. try to change it every 6 months depending on the brand and if it is waterproof or regular.
Well if it is empty the mascara won't come off of the brush, and if it is really old it will be flaky and dry. I always throw out mascara over 3 months old regardless of it is still full. It can damage your eyes if it is too old.

I wear Clinique black mascara on most days, and it looks good for the first half. But then it starts to rub and flake off and stick to my under-eye area, and it looks like I have huge dark circles. I don't rub it during the day, it just must come off when I blink.

Benefit has great mascara. The BADgal is very popular, it has a huge brush and makes lashes look very thick. My personal favorite, however, is Diorshow by Dior. I have relatively long lashes but they aren't thick at all and Diorshow curls, volumizes, and lengthens them even more. I only use one coat and that's enough for a day look, but it builds well and you can use two or three coats without it getting clumpy. It's amazing and totally worth the $24 it costs. I've had mine for about three months and I'm going to need a new tube soon because I literally use it everyday.
Benefit Bad Gal seems to be popular. Covergirl Lash Blast seems to be the mascara of the moment, offering length and thickness.

Most mascara, depending on the fiber content will clump. Try not to get so much on your brush before applying, you can use a clean paper towel or tissue to remove some of the excess, just dab the end and gently squeeze (not too much or you will remove too much of the mascara) the tissue/paper towel around the brush. Maybelline Great Lash is one of the worst for flaking and clumping unless you apply properly and use a lash comb. There are brands that are sold with a comb applicator which will help reduce the clumping and save you a step like Bourjois ';Yes to volume! No to clumps!';, although is is much more expensive the applicator is a comb and it works great.

A Lot of the time mascara clumps up if you house gets to hot or it is left in your car or just because it does do that... running the applicator under hot water and whipping it off with a rag will help it to not clump.... also I use a eye lash comb to but I put a drop of baby oil on it helps better then just the comb its self.

Yes, it's most probably just the mascara that you're using. I really like the mascara that I use, it's from Loreal and is called Telescopic Mascara. It's really good coz it reallly lengthens my eyelashes and puts them into a nice shape without clumping them. The first time I ever tried it, the lady serving me at the store said that it was really good and she uses it too:D
try one with a thermoplastic wand, like covergirl's lash blast or max factor's lash perfection. they don't have bristles, more like little rubber spikes that coat and separate your lashes. also make sure you are wiggling the brush back and forth a little bit as you sweep the mascara onto your lashes.
I would ditch the mascara you are using and go to the cosmetic counter to find a suitable one. Sometimes using the comb I find is useless when the mascara is wet as it doesn't do anything. There are some great no clump mascaras on the market that are marketed this way so check them out.

I get a lot of compliment on my eyelashes, people always asking me if I wear fakes... nope I dont.. just know how to apply the mascara and know how to unclump it with a safety pin.. works great!
Most mascara, depending on the fiber content will clump. Try not to get so much on your brush before applying, you can use a clean paper towel or tissue to remove some of the excess, just dab the end and gently squeeze (not too much or you will remove too much of the mascara) the tissue/paper towel around the brush. Maybelline Great Lash is one of the worst for flaking and clumping unless you apply properly and use a lash comb. There are brands that are sold with a comb applicator which will help reduce the clumping and save you a step like Bourjois ';Yes to volume! No to clumps!';, although is is much more expensive the applicator is a comb and it works great.

A Lot of the time mascara clumps up if you house gets to hot or it is left in your car or just because it does do that... running the applicator under hot water and whipping it off with a rag will help it to not clump.... also I use a eye lash comb to but I put a drop of baby oil on it helps better then just the comb its self.

ONLY because I started using ';Too faced shadow insurance'; It's a eye shadow primer used to prevent creasing and to absorb the oil on your lids. The oil on your lids are the reasons for the raccoon eyes! At least for me that was the reason why. Anyways, TFSI is like my holy grail!!! It kept my shadows bright, vibrant, creaseless, and smudge proof. It also helped my mascara stay in place throughout the day because the oil did not get on the lashes.
ok first, do not use mascara on your bottom lashes!!!! this makes raccoon eyes look worse. i have actual dark circles under my eyes. i use my power under my eyes/on top of dark circles and then i put on a nice soft kohl eyeliner and mascara on ONLY MY TOP LASHES. if i know i am going to sweat i use a waterproof or tube mascara. you should try to apply these tips to your daily routine and also, try to not blink a lot until your mascara dries. hope this helps! %26lt;3 ya! :)

Use WD-40. Spray it on and rub it off with a dry rag. Then use soap and warm water on the carpet to clean up any residue left behind. Good luck.

This type of stain is one of the hardest to get out the carpet.
I would recommend using a wet vac and slowly pour hot almost boiling water (from a kettle) on the spot and vacuum it up at the same time, (this will open up the dye ports on the carpet fibre releasing the stain. and remove the residue from the carpet).
If the stain is still visible than try putting Dawn dishwashing liquid (4 or 5 drops into one cup of water) or carpet spotter. Dampen the spot letting it soak on the stain for about 5 minutes and repeat step one. After this you should rinse the area again with the wet vac and hot water. If this doesn鈥檛 work try using orange glo or even 409. The most important thing to do is rinse the stain with a wet vac and hot water from a kettle to remove all the reside, or the spot may come back.
Only as a last resort if you have fingernail polish try acetate. Blot the chemical onto the spot and then remove with a towel and repeat, keep on doing this until stain is gone or you stop getting colour transfer. Then rinse the stain with a wet vac and hot water to remove all the reside,
Please be careful with what product you uses (neutral PH carpet cleaning solution is best). Please DO NOT put anything on the carpet that was not made for carpet.

Then I use maybelline lash discovery masara and wet n wild creme eyeliner (in the little pot) it is a brush on liner This stuff really stays put! I recommend getting a better brush for it like ecotools angled eyeliner brush.

I use Maybelline Colossal Volum' you know, the one in the yellow tube? I have really really short, very straight eyelashes, and i used to have to use about 4 different mascaras to get even a little lift, but this one really is great. After about 3 coats you notice a dramatic difference. It's just amazing, and it's not even expensive. I really recommend it :)
My friend had a YSL mascara, it came in a gold tube... i can't remember the name but it was truly amazing - but sadly far out of my price range!

i reaaally love dior's blackout :) it's kind of pricey but it's amazing. i find it hard to understand how people can just put up with drugstore/boots mascara's because i find them all really awful and cakey, ive NEVER had success with any of them and i've literally tried them all.
diors is really none cakey or clumpy, its long lasting and it makes my lashes look thicker AND longer.
lancome definicils is probably better, the only difference is it sometimes smudges under my eyes and i hate it when it does that (N).

For any new stains, however, try OxyClean pre-wash stain remover or some make up remover sheets that you can buy in the face care section of the store. Rub the make up sheet on the stain and it should take it right out. Those sheets are designed to remove eye make up, no matter how stubborn. Pretreat the fabric with laundry detergent and cold water. Scrub from BEHIND the stain (turn the case inside out). You could possibly use a stain remover for clothing if you have that available.
Let the case soak and then wash it on a longer wash cycle.

If you can find a really good make-up remover. Normally the ones that say for eye make-up on the container, will work out most of the color. You probably want to use q-tips to apply and rub the make-up remover into the fabric. Then let the pillows sit for A minute. Wash as usual.
This normally works for me.
Hair spray works great on ink - even after something's been through the dryer. I'm not sure if it'll work on mascara.
Test a small area - if the mascara starts to spread then it's working
(it's adhering to the hairspray and lifting out of the fabric)

I've always used Definicils from Lancome but am getting tired of it plus it's so expensive. Personally on a natural blonde or a red head you should stick with clear or brown mascaras. They look more natural. If you really really like black save it for when you go out at night..perasonally I like Maybellines Great Lash (the pink tube with the green cap) in Blackest Black and I really like Clinique lash power mascara, if you go to a Cliniue counter they should give you a free sample. As for the day time you should stick to a more natural mascara (clear or brown). Hope that helps =]

I think that black is fine as long as it isn't caked on too much. Don't use cover girl. They test their products on animals, which is terrible and kills/tortures many. There are a lot better products out there that are cruelty free. Revlon is alright, I do like some of their mascaras.Try Define-A-Lash. It's really good, actually. But my favorites come from Neutrogina because they are natural looking instead of heavy.

If you really really like black save it for when you go out at night..perasonally I like Maybellines Great Lash (the pink tube with the green cap) in Blackest Black and I really like Clinique lash power mascara, if you go to a Cliniue counter they should give you a free sample. As for the day time you should stick to a more natural mascara (clear or brown). Hope that helps =]
Define a Lash by Maybelline is really good. They have a new wand to put it on and it works.
i loove two. one is from Van Heusan (sry about the spelling) and the other is from sephora i don't know the name but it like really big and circular. o i also love maybeline's the pink and green bottle.
I think that black is fine as long as it isn't caked on too much. Don't use cover girl. They test their products on animals, which is terrible and kills/tortures many. There are a lot better products out there that are cruelty free. Revlon is alright, I do like some of their mascaras.Try Define-A-Lash. It's really good, actually. But my favorites come from Neutrogina because they are natural looking instead of heavy.

For eyeliner, I would go with black. People always say to wear brown, but black ends up looking better. When applying eyeliner, something that took me forever to figure out too, always apply to the top lid first.
STEP ONE: Close the eye you're applying eyeliner too, and place the index finger of the hand not applying the eyeliner on the closed eyelid, towards the inside of the eye. This will stretch the eyelid, allowing you better access to the edge of the lid, closest to the lashes.
STEP TWO: Start applying from the outside and work your way inward.
STEP THREE: apply slowly, and do not press down hard at first. After going over the area where you want the eyeliner, draw a second coat at the outer edge of the lid. Having thicker eyeliner on the outside than towards the middle and inner parts of of the eyelid makes your eyes look bigger and rounder.
STEP FOUR: Time for the bottom lids! Press lightly with the eyeliner on the lower lash line and draw from the outer to the inner part. Eyeliner may sometimes look trashy on blonds if heavily applied to the bottom (I'm blond too!) so make sure you keep the line light.
For eyeshadow, it generally depends on the occasion, but there are a few basic colors I stick to: brown, light tan, and gray. Choosing which color to wear really depends on what you're wearing. I own browns and tans with and without sparkles, as well as blacks/grays, but those are obviously only for the evening. Some plums look good in the evening (never wear it during the day!!!!), but finding the right one for our coloring can be very hard (I found a perfect one for the evening that I posted below). How do you get waterproof mascara out of clothing?
I dropped my waterproof mascara wand on my fave pair of khaki pants a week ago. When I got home from work, I sprayed on Oxy stain remover spray and then washed them. When I took them out of the dryer the next morning, the stain was still there, and just slightly lighter. How can I get this stain out?How do you get waterproof mascara out of clothing?
Unfortunately, since it's been through the dryer, it's probably been set in the pants. I'd just continue with the oxy stain remover spray and washing it. I agree with pipsiwa - Goof Off is the best answer. I didn't know a bottle of WP mascara was in my laundry until AFTER I dried an entire load - everything appeared RUINED! I would try a product sold at most hardware stores called ';Goof Off'; it comes in a yellow can with red lettering.....I've used it to take off paint from my clothing....you just lay the garment out and squirt some of the product on the stain and use an old toothbrush to scrub....then let sit for 10 minutes, scrub again if necessary then wash in COLD water.....check the stain before drying....the dryer sets the stain in the clothing.

here are my tips...
1. Curl your lashes before applying mascara
2. Use a blow dryer to slightly heat up your eyelash curler before using it. make sure its cool enough to use. (this method will help curl your lashes)

all the other answers said it! curl your lashes with an eyelash curler! One cool tip for curling your lashes is to use a hair dryer and blow it against your eyelash curler for 10 second, then place the curler onto your palms too see if it's too hot. If so, wait for a while then test it on your palms again to make sure the temperature is alright for your eyes.. then, curl your lashes..
so... start near the roots, then the middle of your lash, then near the tip to create a nice curl instead of just curling it once. Then apply a lengthening and volumizing waterproof mascara because most asians have short lashes (dunno about u :D).. i always prefer waterproof because it can last all day without getting all over your eye in the middle of the day! Mascaras i recommend are:
covergirl lash blast
maybelline colossal (the applicator on this one is way smaller than lash blast (better for shorter lashes and smaller eyes) )
use an eyelash curler and curl them for 10 - 15 sec then release and put two coats of mascara. If that still didn't work heat your eyelash curler up with your hair dryer and them press and curl on lashes. Also use a lengthening, volumizing, or curl enhancing mascara.

all the other answers said it! curl your lashes with an eyelash curler! One cool tip for curling your lashes is to use a hair dryer and blow it against your eyelash curler for 10 second, then place the curler onto your palms too see if it's too hot. If so, wait for a while then test it on your palms again to make sure the temperature is alright for your eyes.. then, curl your lashes..
so... start near the roots, then the middle of your lash, then near the tip to create a nice curl instead of just curling it once. Then apply a lengthening and volumizing waterproof mascara because most asians have short lashes (dunno about u :D).. i always prefer waterproof because it can last all day without getting all over your eye in the middle of the day! Mascaras i recommend are:
covergirl lash blast
maybelline colossal (the applicator on this one is way smaller than lash blast (better for shorter lashes and smaller eyes) )
use an eyelash curler and curl them for 10 - 15 sec then release and put two coats of mascara. If that still didn't work heat your eyelash curler up with your hair dryer and them press and curl on lashes. Also use a lengthening, volumizing, or curl enhancing mascara.

Curl your lashes (as everyone else has said). Also use a lighter mascara formula. Don't go for lengthening and volumizing, because it will weigh your lashes down. Get something that will enhance the curl of lashes.
b4 you curl your lashes. heat up the rubber of eyelash curler by using a lighter just a little bit. it works well!
but BE CAREFULl!! if you heat it up too much you'll burn your eyelashes!! just a little bit!

I use loreal paris double extend...one end is white n the other is red.
I've also used covergirls colossal n the stuff by them thats in the huge orange tube...they work really good to.
then instead of just curling your lashes (any lash curler from sallys beauty supply) do it twice..once at the base (farthest back u can go on ur lashes without pinching urself) and then also in the middle of ur lashes..it should not only make them look thicker but also give them a great curl.

L'Oreal Voluminous. I adore this mascara. It gives length and volume without going overboard. One or two coats will give you fabulous, clump-free lashes.
Diorshow is great! It's a little pricey though... however, you get what you pay for!
Maybelline's Great Lash gives you really long and voluminous lashes. However, it is really watery and even when you just tear up it starts to run.
Covergirl's Lash Blast will give you what you want, but the tube is orange and sort of bulky. And so is the wand, which will make coating your lower lashes really hard.
Whatever you do, avoid Revlon's 3D extreme. It's one of the more expensive drugstore mascaras, but it clumps really bad, the wand picks up unnecessary gunks, and it really doesn't do much.

Right now I'm using exact eyelights by covergirl, but its not the best at making thick, long lashes. But it really brings out the green in my eyes.

Mascara only thickens your lashes and makes them stand out more.
Giving the illusion that they are longer.

My fave is Almay's ';One Coat'; mascara. It really does do the job in one coat, and it's never ';clumped'; for me, unless I'm getting to the bottom of the tube, which is when I should replace anyway b/c it's probably just getting old too.

How do I keep mascara from smudging under my eyes?
I have tried sooo many mascaras. They all leave a dark ring in a crease under my eyes after a couple of hours. I've tried waterproof; it's even worse because it's so hard to remove the smudge! I've tried putting powder under my eyes, and I NEVER rub them!

After trying nearly everything over the last several years I have found that the Revlon Lash Fantasy is the best. It doesn't get clumpy on me until about the 3rd month or later. I find the regular one to be the best and not the waterproof. I have a pool and do swim, and it doesn't run, even in the high humidity (on vacation in Pennsylvania in July). This mascara has the primer on the white end, and the mascara on the black end and the gold band in the center. Lightly apply the primer, wait about 2 min or use the hairdryer for about 15 sec then apply the black mascara. It makes thick luscious long eyelashes that do appear natural as can be expected without being clumpy. Practice helps. Try lash blast or voluminous by revlon. If these are not your style, try a waterproof mascara that has more wax in it, this helps make your eyelashes thicker. - Lancome Defincils is the #1 Mascara for several years (in many style magazines) I have a small sample of it, it lenghthens, seperates,and never clumps.
- My good friend had a very expensive mascara from Chanel, it worked amazingly, but she wouldn't tell me what it's called - I'm pretty sure it was Chanel Inimitable though.
- Also Lancome Hypnose I've heard amazing things about, basically all Lancome mascaras are great!
Tip:
If you really want to see what works best for you, go to sephora and try them on, splurging a little on mascara for some brands is totally worth it.
I'm half asian/african american, and have rather short, thin lashes. I look mostly for lengthening mascara (cause all mascara gives you volume) and then when I find one that works really well (great length and little clumps - i comb clumps out, if there are any.)
- A tip to get more volume, focus on applying mascara to the base of the eyelashes.
I like using the Maybelline Curve Brush, it gives more volume. Alot of my clients like those.

I used to wear glasses and had trouble picking out mascaras. After experimenting with a lot of mascara companies, I settled on Covergirl and Rimmel
Maybelline products smudge very easily and take a long time to dry. Don't buy the pink and green lid one, the brush doesn't work very well.
Keep in mind that when you're applying any mascara, don't lengthen it too much and apply a thin coat. You have glasses and therefore, your eyelashes will rub against the lenses and it'll become annoying.
If you want something more natural, buy clear mascara. I use Rimmel's clear mascara and it's fantastic for days where I want to look natural, but tidy. Apply it like any normal mascara and you'll be left with natural eyelashes.
Remember that individuals with glasses must tone down the amount of eye makeup they wear, because the lenses of the glasses emphasize the makeup.

i think its worth spending quite a lot on getting a descent mascara. cheap mascaras usually clump easily, and never look that good a few hours later. i live in the uk, and use maybeline define a lash which i think is really good. but your prescription in your glasses will either cause your eyes to appear bigger or smaller. if they appear bigger, you will want to apply it carefully, coz any clumps will appear more obvious. if they make your eyes look smaller then i would suggest using a lengthening or volumising mascara to make your eyes seem bigger. hope this helps!!

i have a really good technique for this that i use:
get any good mascara and keep combing it through your eyelashes until it becomes thick and clumpy
then get a clean rubber mascara brush (from an old mascara)
and run it through your eyelashes to separate them and get away any big clumps.
while your doing all this tilt your head back and push the mascara brush onto your eyelids taking the eyelashes with it,
and wipe off any mascara on your eyelids with baby wipes after
also putting a few coats of mascara on the bottom lashes helps

Ahhhh...... I'm still looking for an eye liner that doesnt smudge... all I know is that Revlon eye liner DOES smudge, Collection 2000 smudges and the Cat walk eye liner does.
Edit: Oh I forgot to add which mascara I find the best, that is Lash Exact Cover Girl Mascara. It is easy to apply and it washes of like a charm with a tiny bit of rubbing! The worst mascara I find is Lash Stylist Maybelline New York, it is the most DIFFICULT mascara on earth to take off, I have pulled out many eyelashes with this cosmetic!

I am still searching for the perfect eyeliner, but I like physicians formula eyeliner which doesn't smudge, it's like a sharpie with a finer tip. It is pretty precise. However, it depends how your going to use it. This is good for on top of the lash line like how I use it, I don't know how it would work on the inner rims of the eyes though. As for the best mascara I would say great lash by maybeline, there's a reason it's been around forever. It has a good consistency, doesn't flake unless it's old and doesn't clump. I have tried a few lancome mascaras which cost a great deal and while they may be nice they're not THAT much better if at all. Hope this helps you!

The worst mascara I find is Lash Stylist Maybelline New York, it is the most DIFFICULT mascara on earth to take off, I have pulled out many eyelashes with this cosmetic!
best mascara rimmel VOLUM' EYES it's ridiculous..it darkens seperates NO CLUMPS and lengthens and it's cheap the comb is reallly big and it's solid so that helps seperation..the best eyeliner is the l'oreal telescopic mascara the liner is solid so it goes on smooth..just perfection%26lt;3
I am still searching for the perfect eyeliner, but I like physicians formula eyeliner which doesn't smudge, it's like a sharpie with a finer tip. It is pretty precise. However, it depends how your going to use it. This is good for on top of the lash line like how I use it, I don't know how it would work on the inner rims of the eyes though. As for the best mascara I would say great lash by maybeline, there's a reason it's been around forever. It has a good consistency, doesn't flake unless it's old and doesn't clump. I have tried a few lancome mascaras which cost a great deal and while they may be nice they're not THAT much better if at all. Hope this helps you!
